One of the biggest restaurants on Hong Kong island has opened in The Lee Gardens and is hoping to bring in large corporate parties, which, until now, have had few venue options.
The House of Canton has a 15,000-square-foot site on the fifth floor and can seat up to 720 diners.
'There are no other restaurants on Hong Kong island in a nice location like Causeway Bay that can accommodate these kinds of large corporate dinners,' said House of Canton managing director Raymond Chiu.
Maxim's, in the World Trade Centre, used to have the capacity but it was moved out to make way for a shopping mall and, although hotel ballrooms could accommodate large dinners, they cost more, he said.
Mr Chiu estimated a table for 12 in an hotel would cost up to 40 per cent more than in his restaurant.
'Lots of big companies have a hard time finding space for things like annual dinners,' he said.
'We have a smaller House of Canton in the Caroline Centre and we have to turn down a lot of customers who want 30 or more tables. That's why we wanted this space.' In addition to accommodating more people, the restaurant at The Lee Gardens has platforms, a speaker system and other support for corporate presentations or entertainment.
