A foreman allegedly deducted hundreds of thousands of dollars from the wages of 60 mainland workers at a West Kowloon MTR construction site.
Three workers who were sacked last Tuesday claimed they were owed about $100,000 taken from them in illegal monthly deductions.
The trio, who worked for about four months on the Yau Ma Tei reclamation site, which is part of the new airport infrastructure project, called the police over the weekend.
They told the Labour Department yesterday that a foreman for sub-contractor Four Ngai Engineering had deducted $5,848.50 as a service fee every month for two to three months from them and 57 other workers.
The company yesterday said it had no employee of the name given by the workers and refused to make further comment.
The sacked workers' employer and sub-contractor Balfour Beatty Ltd said the trio were fired because of unsatisfactory performance.
