Officials questioned on imported labour

Officials were asked yesterday whether they would retrain construction workers to meet housing targets rather than import labour.

The query came from Wong Siu-yee at a provisional legislature manpower panel meeting.

Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower Matthew Cheung Kin-chung said the Government would not rule out importing workers.

He said the Vocational Training Council had provided an extra 720 places for construction workers at the technician level.
