A three-day camp provided a group of girls with the chance to evaluate the role and responsibilities of the mass media.
Students of liberal studies at St Catherine's School for Girls, were divided into small groups and were asked to select a topic relating to the mass media on which they had to make a presentation.
Form Seven student Chu Wing- yiu chose the presentation style of local newspapers.
She selected three hot news items: the in-fighting among the Tang family following the death of Chinese opera singer Tang Wing-cheung; Chinese immigrants; and the leaking of test papers by an Examination Authority staff member.
She used these to show how the same news could be presented in different ways, emphasising various angles.
Wing-yiu's presentation showed that the newspapers which acted as a mouthpiece for government were more subjective.
She said newspapers' presentation of the facts varied, particularly those with a high circulation.
