A SPONSORSHIP package worth $1 million has been given to the Hongkong Food Festival by American Express (Amex), and members can enjoy special privileges at most events. Mr David Stone, the vice-president for marketing and sales said: ''We are big supporters of the tourism and travel industry the world over, and we want to generate more tourist spending in Hongkong. ''The travel industry is the territory's third largest earner of foreign exchange. ''We also want to support our restaurant and hotel partners by bringing them business.'' Combining benefits for members and innovative marketing, the company has this year launched an invitation to members to ''please join us for dinner'' during the Food Festival. Card holders receive a $100 voucher for dinner at any of over 200 restaurants participating in the festival. Also, during the festival and for a month after, card holders will receive a $50 voucher for their next dinner every time they settle the bill with their Amex card, provided they spend at least $300. And if they fill in a customer service survey form with every dinner voucher, they have the chance to win dinner vouchers worth $15,000. The survey is part of an marketing scheme launched by Amex at last year's Food Festival. Results of the survey are compiled into a report which is sent to participating restaurants. It shows how they are rated and where they could improve their service and food quality. ''It's called the 'Salute to Restaurant Service', and we concentrate on the idea of good service,'' Mr Stone said. Other benefits for Amex members include priority booking for festival events, and vouchers to spend at the Fun and Food Fiesta. Mr Stone said Amex would continue to support the Food Festival in the future. ''I think the quality of food in Hongkong is at least as good as it was when the festival first started, and now there is a lot more variety,'' he said.
