Young SAR footballers took advantage of a rare chance to be coached by a Briton who once played with the mighty Liverpool club.

Former top-flight player Alan Kennedy flew to Hong Kong as a guest at the FILA Kick-Start soccer programme staged at King George V School.

Kennedy is the star attraction at the five-day course which ends today.

The former England full-back provided local players aged eight to 16 with an experience they will not forget.

'It's important to make learning fun for young players and to give them equal opportunities,' said Kennedy. 'I want to see the children in my coaching course end up with Premier League teams. Through passing on my personal tips and advice, I hope to see them take that big step one day.' Tim Bredbury, the FILA programme director of coaching, said he was thrilled Kennedy had joined the course.

'Participants just love him,' said Bredbury. 'He knows how to explain complex skills in simple ways. I'm sure the kids will benefit a lot from his rich experience.
