A two-year-old dumped by a couple in Kowloon City has been too distressed to talk or play with nurses at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Nobody has come forward to collect the girl who was found on Wednesday in Kowloon City Road at about 8.30 pm, police said.

She will be kept under observation until Monday when the Social Welfare Department will take charge of her, arranging an adoption if the parents cannot be traced.

A senior hospital manager, Helen Tang Chui-sum, said physiological tests had shown the girl was in satisfactory condition.

Ms Tang said the girl, who has been crying non-stop, might have been shocked by the new environment. 'She refused to take any food on the first morning but started to take some milk and congee later on.

'She has not said a word during her stay and refused to play with the therapist. She spent quite a lot of time sleeping,' she said.
