FOLLOWING a campaign by the Hongkong Oxfam, the Catholic Society of Chong Gene Hang College organised a fund-raising activity - Save Somali. The campaign was in the form of a shared lunch, held recently. The day's programme included the shared meal, at $30 each, a lunch-time concert and karaoke. Although the event was not a compulsory one, almost all the school's students participated and enjoyed every minute of it. The most attractive part of the activity was the concert. Songs were dedicated at $5 each and popular music was played. A school spokesman explained why staff and students had dedicated themselves so wholeheartedly to the charity programme: '' 'Love' is a simple word with a wealth of meanings. It is because of love that nearly all of our students enthusiastically took part in this activity, so we can all learn the profound message of love the less fortunate have to reach. ''We firmly believe that such activities can inspire us to reflect on the miserable conditions of our sisters and brothers afar. We do believe that we can help heal the world through our concerted effort.'' After deducting expenses, the students managed to put together $42,000, which would be forwarded to Somali through Oxfam Hongkong.
