Chinese music creates charming atmosphere for open day of The N. T. Heung Yee
THE assembly hall of The New Territories Heung Yee Kuk Yuen Long District Secondary School was buzzing with activity when the school opened its doors to the public at its annual open day, held recently.
Eighteen student clubs had set up booths to display some of their outstanding projects.
There were also stalls featuring calligraphy writing, chess and paper-flower making. Souvenirs in the form of bookmarks and posters made by the students were given away to visitors.
The sound of music attracted a big crowd to one corner of the hall where members of the school's newly set up Chinese orchestra were performing on the pipa and gu zheng.
Fourth-former Fan Yan, who plays the pipa and is the orchestra's chairlady, said the group was formed last September, and the orchestra now boasted over 30 members.
''Many students like to learn Chinese musical instruments. They hire private tutors, but this can be expensive.
