Hong Kong's windsurfing queen Lee Lai-shan has arrived in Perth for a 10-day training stint, part of her preparations for next month's world championships.
The Olympic champion in Atlanta, known more commonly as San San, was accompanied by teammate Sam Wong Tak-sum and Lisa Neuburger, the newly appointed assistant windsurfing coach at the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI).
HKSI head windsurfing coach Rene Appel described it as a 'training camp' to allow Lee and Wong to adjust to the wind and water conditions in Perth.
'San San has shown steady improvement since returning from her studies in Australia and I'm quite happy with her progress,' he said.
'However, she needs a great amount of on- the-water training before she can regain top form.' Lee, who won the world title four years ago in Japan, was recently crowned women's champion at the Hong Kong Open. After the Perth titles, she will take part in the Siam World Cup in Pattaya, Thailand.
'The Siam World Cup will be held at the exact venue of next year's Asian Games and I would treat the event as a fact-finding competition,' Appel said.
