AIR China has ordered Skyphone services for its fleet of Boeing 747 passenger aircraft.
The service will initially be restricted to in-flight satellite telephone communications, but may be extended to provide data and facsimile services.
Skyphone will be fitted to the entire Air China long-haul fleet.

The first of the B747s are now being equipped in Singapore.
Through Skyphone's ground stations in Singapore, Norway and the United Kingdom, users will have direct-dial access to more than 200 countries.

Skyphone is a consortium comprising British Telecom, Singapore Telecom and Norwegian Telecom.
