Eight companies have received Certificates of Merit in Technological Achievement from the Hong Kong Industrial Technology Centre Corporation.
One of the recipients is Valence Semiconductor Design Limited, an ASIC design house and a subsidiary of Valence Technology Inc.
Founded in 1985, Valence was one of the first Integrated Circuit (IC) design houses in Hong Kong.
It began as a service company, designing chips mostly for overseas multinational clients. It believes it gained valuable experience in state- of-the-art chip design process and flow.
It was this experience and the potential growth in the local market that led to the company, in 1990, making this market its main focus, and went from design only to design and manufacture of IC chips.
The company manufactures via subcontracting and sells chips primarily to the region, including China, the SAR, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and other Asean manufacturers.
This was the first year that Valence entered the Hong Kong Awards for Industry. It did so because of the introduction of the technological achievement category.
