The SAR Government is tapping the expertise of the Victorian state Government in boosting its information technology, according to Premier Jeff Kennett. Mr Kennett said he had had initial discussions with Financial Secretary Sir Donald Tsang Yam-kuen about an information system called Maxi, to be launched this month in Melbourne. The system would enable the Government to offer more efficient and better-quality service by putting its information and services online for easier access, he said. Mr Kennett said his government expected the Hong Kong official named to co-ordinate information technology development to attend the Melbourne launching ceremony. Mr Kennett said he understood that Tung Chee-hwa and Sir Donald were keen to develop information technology, which he said would provide a great opportunity for co-operation. 'If successful, we hope that Mr Tung can bring the technology to China,' he said. 'We hope that the relationship between Hong Kong and Victoria, Hong Kong and Australia will continue to grow,' the Premier said.
