The Transport Department has decided to terminate a limited but important shuttle bus service to Central. The limited service, between 10am and 4pm, serves residents of May Tower I and II in May Road, Century Towers I and II, Branksome and Tavistock apartments in Tregunter Path. Population density in this area continues to grow, but the infrastructure provided remains as it was in 1971 when I arrived in Hong Kong. Are we to believe that the Government has reversed its policy so that residents in this area are now being encouraged to use private transport to further congest traffic levels in Central District? The management of the apartments, Kerry Properties, made its contribution by providing an adequate mode of transport for the residents of May Road and Tregunter Path and at the same time reducing the level of vehicles operating in the area. I urge the Transport Department to review its decision regarding this service, and allow the Kerry Properties' shuttle bus to operate on a half-hourly basis between the hours of 10am and 4pm. V. G.
