The British Broadcasting Corp launched a 24-hour, all- news domestic television channel on Sunday with a limited audience. BBC News 24 will initially be available around the clock to just two million cable television subscribers. However, in the early morning hours, when network programming ends, it will be available to all TV viewers on BBC1, the main terrestrial channel. 'Eventually we want to launch it on as many platforms as we can,' said BBC news director Jenny Abramsky. BBC News 24 is the network's first new domestic channel since the birth of BBC2 33 years ago. The channel was devised for the multi-channel world of digital television, whose launch in Britain has been delayed until next spring or summer.
