A WOMAN fed her lover a 'poisonous' hormone drug and then cheated him out of his share in their flat while he was suffering from the side-effects, a writ claimed yesterday .

 Yu Chi-keung, a driver in his 40s, claims he was left impotent and suffering from a condition which causes an abnormal swelling of the breasts.

 He says his lover, Cheung Mei-kuen, tricked him into buying the flat by pretending she had given birth to his daughter in the United States.

 She then persuaded him to sign away his share in the property by promising to bring the child to Hong Kong.

 Mr Yu says he was under the influence of Proviron, described in the writ as a 'poisonous' male sex hormone, when he signed the deed giving his half of the flat to Ms Cheung.

 The writ, lodged at the High Court, said the couple were both married to other people when they began an affair in 1986.

 Mr Yu says Ms Cheung later told him she had given birth to their child and called her Yu Ying-ying. She claimed the child was being looked after by her mother.

 She is said to have told Mr Yu that he must look after her, and their daughter, and should provide a flat for the family in Hong Kong.

 Mr Yu bought a flat on the eighth floor of Manor Centre, Un Chau Street, Kowloon, and moved in with Ms Cheung.

 The flat, purchased in December 1986, cost $315,000 and Mr Yu paid $150,000 in cash and took out a mortgage for the balance. The couple were registered as joint tenants.

 But the claims made by Ms Cheung about their daughter were untrue, says the writ. It alleges that the child is in fact the daughter of Ms Cheung's younger brother.

 In February 1990 Mr Yu divorced his wife and in May that year he began to feel ill.

 He claims Ms Cheung bought him medicine but his health deteriorated.

 She had given him the drug Proviron which has side-effects, the court heard.

 On May 12, 1990, he was taken to hospital suffering from impotence and gynaecomastia, a condition which causes an abnormal swelling of the male breasts.

 Doctors suspected he was also suffering from other conditions caused by a hormone imbalance.

 Mr Yu says Ms Cheung took him to a solicitors office on August 13, 1990, the day he had finished paying off the mortgage, and demanded he sign away his half share in the property to her, as a gift.

 She said that in return she would bring their daughter to Hong Kong, it is alleged.

 Mr Yu is asking the court to rule that the deed was obtained by the undue influence of Ms Cheung and was signed against his free will.

 He wants the deed cancelled.
