A NEW Scottish Premiership would have 12 teams from the year 2000 and may operate a revolutionary split season with a winter break if the top 10 clubs' applications to retire from the Scottish League are accepted.

The proposal would involve all 12 clubs playing home and away before Christmas, after which the teams would divide into two mini-leagues of six to decide the title and relegation.
The top clubs would play 32 games a season, compared with 34 at the moment. There may also be a knockout tournament during the January break.
