Horticulturists and flower enthusiasts can show off their skills in a competition organised as part of the Hong Kong Flower Show, set for next March.

The show, jointly organised by the Provisional Urban Council and the Provisional Regional Council, is an annual event which has proved highly popular since it was launched 10 years ago.

Every year open competitive sections are organised to give amateurs and the opportunity to display their knowledge.

A spokesman for the Provisional Urban Council said there would be 10 sections open to the public in 1998.

These are: scented pot plants; orchids; Chinese cymbidium; pot plants; cacti and succulents; foliage plants; African violets; bonsai-type plants; and floral arrangements in Western and Eastern styles.

'Requirements on floral materials, combinations, dimensions, placement and the use of accessories vary for each competitive section,' the spokesman said.
