HONGKONG Bank International Trustee founder and former chairman Brian Kieran is back in Hongkong in a new guise in the same industry. As president of one of the world's newest private banks, Dextra Bank and Trust Co, based in the Cayman Islands, Mr Kieran is very quick to point out he is not after the clients of his old employer. Mr Kieran joined Dextra in January, having worked at the Hongkong Bank since 1985 and with Morgan Grenfell in London since 1975. Dextra is a small, private banking operation intended to provide a more personal service to the rich and wealthy of Hongkong. An international tax specialist by profession, Mr Kieran believes that private banking, especially the trustee business in Hongkong and at many other offshore centres around the globe, is set for change. Clients, both corporate and individual, are demanding more from their advisers, who are being expected to provide more specialist services. ''Operations that can provide expertise from a wide variety of centres will benefit from these changing trends,'' said Mr Kieran. Dextra, with reserves of US$4.5 million and deposits of $100 million, was born out of a legal firm in the Cayman Islands called Myers and Alberga. The bank was formed in 1988. Clients are offered a wide range of services including different types of trust, tax management, leasing arrangements, captive insurance arrangements and services in patents and trademarks.
