The Government begins tightening its supervision of security firms today with the introduction of a registration system to maintain standards among employees.

Police would launch a nationwide inspection of companies, said the semi-official China News Service. Those not registered would be shut down.
In addition, officers would review registrations every year to maintain quality and services.
During the shake-up period, police would not approve any applications to form new companies.
Government departments would speed up drafting regulations to govern the booming industry, the agency said.

A police spokesman said no security companies would be allowed to carry out police functions.
