RTHK disc jockey Harvey Crump was found dead in bed at his Hunghom flat yesterday.

 Police took a syringe, two straws and a spoon from his bedroom. A spokesman said no drugs were found and a postmortem examination would be carried out.

 The body was found after Crump, 40, failed to turn up for his 10 am show on Radio Three. His 24-year-old flatmate called police to the second-floor flat in Block 17, Phase II, of Whampoa Garden several hours later.

 Crump was certified dead by ambulancemen and taken to Kowloon Public Mortuary.

 His flatmate said Crump had gone to bed at about 11 pm on Tuesday.

 In 1995, 23-year-old Briton Lisa Jane O'Riordan was found unconscious in his bed after a night of partying in Lan Kwai Fong.

 She later died. Traces of drugs were found in her bloodstream.

 Friends and colleagues last night paid tribute to Crump, who revamped RTHK's playlist.

 'Radio Three is absolutely stunned, shattered,' station head Martin Clarke said last night.

 Briton Crump started at RTHK as a freelancer on April 1, 1989, after working for nearly seven years as a club DJ, including a stint in the Middle East.

 He became a full-time staff member on October 2, 1990, and became a civil servant on July 29 this year.

 He was hailed for his efforts to shake up the station's musical content.

 'Over the years, he helped us upgrade it to be more contemporary,' Mr Clarke said. 'We had better representation of the hits from the '80s and '70s.'  Crump was described as enthusiastic, contributing not only to the work of the station but charities such as Operation Santa Claus.
