A gay couple videotaped their version of a sado-masochistic porn film, but their bondage session ended with one of them dead.

 Choi Kim-hung claimed in court yesterday that he thought his chained and gagged lover, Mohammed Khan, was tired, not dead, when he laid down beside Khan to rest after having sex.

 Choi has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.

 The unemployed 31-year-old met Khan, 21, in Lan Kwai Fong on November 28 last year. They went to Choi's Des Voeux Road West flat to watch porn films, the Court of First Instance heard.

 'They engaged in sex, then Choi set up a video camera. Khan asked him if he wanted to imitate the porn tape and told Choi to chain him up,' prosecutor Derek Pang said.

 Choi claimed Khan had brought the chains with him.

 Khan's wrists were chained behind his back, and the chain was then wrapped around his ankles, waist and neck.

 'Choi covered Khan's mouth and nose with pieces of tape, at Khan's request,' Mr Pang said. 'The videotape shows that considerable care was taken by Choi.'  The camera recorded the pair engaged in sex with Khan chained and bound.

 An autopsy revealed Khan had died of suffocation and possible strangulation.

 The trial continues today before Mr Justice Thomas Gall.
