An H-share executive has joined a newly-established mainland consultancy and investment banking firm which wants to tap growing opportunities from the mainland's accelerated state enterprise reform.

Ding Bokang's move underscores the dire need for professionals familiar with the reform process.

Mr Ding has moved from being Nanjing Panda Electronics company secretary to become president of Jiangsu Estate Investment Advisory, formed by several Jiangsu-based consultancies and a couple of A-share companies.

'Our primary job is to help state enterprises restructure into shareholding companies, acting as their financial advisers for their domestic or overseas listings,' Mr Ding said.

'But we will not be engaged in securities underwriting.' Mr Ding, who obtained an economics degree at Nanjing University in 1995, said there was an increasing demand for the services offered by Jiangsu Estate because the 15th party congress in September had endorsed the acceleration of state sector reform through privatisation.

Mr Ding is the second H-share company secretary to 'jump into the sea', or switch from the state sector into a private firm.

He follows Henry Cai Hongping, the former company secretary of Shanghai Petrochemical, which was one of the first mainland firms to list in Hong Kong.
