JOCKEY Jackie C. K. Tse was yesterday fined $10,000 and banned from riding on International Races Day on Sunday for severe misuse of the whip.
Local trainer Wylie Wong Wai-lit, who prepares low-grade galloper Spring Of Windsor, was fined $10,000 for aiding and abetting the offence, which occurred in the first event at the all-weather meeting at Sha Tin.
Senior veterinary surgeon Keith Watkins reported that the gelding had returned with many weal marks on its off flank and stifle and the stipendiary stewards interviewed Tse and Wong.
They found that Tse, who has had few rides this season but, ironically, more yesterday than on any other day, had hit the gelding with excessive frequency and undue force.
Female apprentice Win Chung Lai-fong's day on the track ended with an ambulance dash to hospital after she was unseated from Right On in the fourth event.
Chung, who is with the David Oughton stable, lost her balance after Schnitzer, ridden by Tse, was severely checked and dropped back on Right On.
