It has been two years since singer-songwriter Janis Ian released an album, but her latest set is likely to please old fans and win some new ones.

Her new offering, Hunger, deals with familiar Ian territory - race relations, interracial romance and the world of emotions in general.

She is now with the Windham Hill label, whose promotions officer in Hong Kong believes the album will get a warm response in the SAR despite the lengthy hiatus.

'I think people are very familiar with Janis Ian's name, regardless of how long it has been,' said Ray Yu Sai-hung.

'I do not feel like we need to relaunch her career.' Ian produced Hunger with assistance from Craig Street and Jeff Balding.

However the opening cut, Searching for America, was produced by Ani DiFranco, who also provides back-up vocals and some instrumental support.
