More than 350 students from technical colleges at Chai Wan and Tsing Yi have won scholarships and awards worth a total of $1.7 million.

Dr Ng Tat-lun, the deputy chairman of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) at Hong Kong Technical College (Chai Wan), praised recipients for their outstanding efforts.

'Every award is an investment in tomorrow,' Dr Ng said at the awards presentation ceremony.

'Only a few can receive a scholarship or an award but all can endeavour to achieve to the best of their ability. This in itself is probably the greatest reward.' VTC executive director Professor Lee Ngok thanked the 120 corporate donors who had contributed to the students' continuing education.

'The donations from industry and commerce recognise the growing importance of the technical colleges as a source of higher-diploma and higher-certificate graduates,' said Professor Lee.

'The colleges find this recognition most gratifying.' He said almost 4,000 higher diplomas and higher certificates would be awarded at the VTC's second graduation ceremony.
