I would like to congratulate the organisers and residents of Discovery Bay on the excellent two-day festival that they held the weekend before last. For those who were not there, this consisted of an open-air function in the town piazza, with food stalls, various vendors and strolling entertainers, plus a stage where groups entertained the crowd with live performances which ranged from rock bands to children's disco dancing groups.
I would compare this successful event with the Wan Chai music festival which, after being held for two years in Southorn Playground, was stopped when overzealous authorities reacted in true Hong Kong style to the complaints of a few local kill-joys.
Would the Wan Chai District Board consider resurrecting the Wan Chai music festival? It should be noted that the Provisional Urban Council still holds events in the Southorn Playground at weekends with live or recorded music broadcast over loudspeakers.
