A relaxed Dominique Bou let shrugged off his disappointing Hong Kong Open performance to fire a faultless four-under-par 66 in the opening round of the US$500,000 Omega PGA Championship at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club yesterday.
The 32-year-old Hong Kong professional made full use of his familiarity with the rugged 6,142-yard course on his way to notching four birdies and 14 pars during an error-free round.
The encouraging first-round performance left Boulet two strokes behind leaders Leith Wastle, Park No-seok, and Lu Wen-teh, who all head the leaderboard after recording six-under-par 64s.
Boulet, who finished 66th in last weekend's Open, was rarely troubled during yesterday's round and later said his score would have been lower had his putting been better.
'I had about five very good chances for birdie but I just couldn't make the putts. I think a 63 or 64 would have been quite possible but I haven't got any complaints,' said Boulet.
'I haven't played well all year but today was probably one of the best rounds I've had this season.
