Train passengers are jumping on to the tracks to fetch dropped items or to short-cut to the next platform.
Kicking off a safety campaign yesterday, KCRC officials reminded passengers how to use emergency train stop buttons on platforms as 18 people had jumped on to tracks since January.
A spokesman said most of the cases involved people dropping wallets or having hats blown off and into the restricted area. She said some people were also running across the tracks to get to the opposite platform.
'The figure is down from 39 cases last year but it is extremely dangerous to enter this area - we have a long pole with a mechanical hand to pick things up from the track if necessary,' she said.
'Fortunately, we have had no casualties so far.'
