But no date for the return of the office space on the 7th and 11th floors in Asia Pacific Finance Tower, Central, has been set, according to Government Property Agency senior manager Isabella Wong.

The move will terminate a lease costing taxpayers $745,366 a month.

It is understood the Government has dropped plans to allow other government officials to use the premises because of shortage of office space.

Mrs Wong said: 'The situation is changing all the time. We react to the changing situation. If you ask me what will we do about the premises, I cannot tell you anything about it. We simply don't know.' The Asia Pacific Finance Tower office is about 11,837 square feet, while Mr Tung's new office on the fifth floor of Central Government Offices occupies 10,212 sq ft.
