AIRPORT officials may be hesitant about announcing the opening date of Chek Lap Kok but feng shui master Raymond Lo Hang-lap said an auspicious day should be easy to find.
More crucial than the airport itself was the person who opened it, said Mr Lo.
If President Jiang Zemin performs the honours, the day must not clash with his tiger tendencies, while a different day might favour Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa, born in a year of the ox.
There were no set signs to look for to open an airport or any other inanimate object, Mr Lo said, though Chek Lap Kok was in the right part of Hong Kong to benefit.
Mr Lo said: 'Within a 10-day period you can pick two or three suitable days. The first thing the feng shui will tell us is which days are good for openings. Then we have to determine who is going to officiate as we have to select a date which does not clash with his birth date. We also have to find something which will not clash with the direction of the main building.' Lastly, the feng shui master would select the exact hour and minute to ensure the best possible future for the airport and the person who opened it.
In general though, Chek Lap Kok's future seems assured in the wind and the water.
