Still elated from winning her fourth Golden Horse award, actress Maggie Cheung announced yesterday she will take a break from films.
In past years, Cheung won a pair of Golden Horse awards for best actress and another for best supporting actress before landing best actress again on Saturday for her role in Comrades - Almost a Love Story.
In the movie, directed by Peter Chan, Cheung plays the role of a strong-willed woman Qiao from Guangzhou who moves to Hong Kong determined to build a career.
Cheung returned to Hong Kong yesterday before leaving for Paris, where she planned to join her boyfriend on holiday.
She has been romantically linked with French film director Olivier Assayas since she appeared in his film Irma Vep, which opened in Hong Kong this year.
Before leaving, she said she was fully 'occupied' by her current love affair and planned to rest before making any new films. She was indebted to director Wang Kar-wei for helping her build up the skills that brought her success after years of minor roles.
