The Hong Kong selectors will maintain an open-door policy with regard to those senior players not named in the Barbarians squad announced yesterday.
'The door is not closed by any means. As and when a player makes himself available, they will be considered for selection,' said Bob Brown, the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union's assistant director of coaching.
A number of senior names were glaringly absent when chairman of selectors Ian Brownlee released his squads for the in-bound tour by Sri Lanka early in January.
This was apparently because the players had not met the fitness criteria set by the selectors.
Among the prominent players omitted for the Sri Lankan game are Hong Kong internationals Isi Tu'ivai, Carl Murray and the Dingley brothers, Jon and Paul. Murray has been struggling with an injury.
Sri Lanka have requested two games from Hong Kong as a build-up to their World Cup qualifying match against Taiwan in mid-January in Bangkok.
