Shenzhen has given the go-ahead to a cross-border bridge - which Hong Kong town planners are still studying.
The lack of co-ordination could see Shenzhen start work alone or force a delay in the link between Shekou and Tin Shui Wai.
A provisional legislator yesterday urged the Government to speed up studies on the Western Corridor project, which comprises a bridge spanning 5.3 kilometres across Deep Bay, possibly from Dong Jiao Tuo, Shekou, to Tin Shui Wai.
Mainland experts gave the thumbs-up to the 2.1 billion yuan (HK$1.96 billion) scheme last week after studying the impact on water flow and ships.
But town planners here are still awaiting results of an 18-month study on the impact on the environment.
Provisional legislator Ngan Kam-chuen said he was disappointed at the lack of co-ordination between the two sides.
'The Hong Kong side is a bit slow. Certainly we do not want to see Shenzhen go ahead alone without co-ordinating with Hong Kong,' he said.
