Microsoft's latest version of PictureIT is worth a thousand words. But since my editor is only giving me 600 to wrap up this review and the software is jam-packed with features, I'd better be quick.

PictureIT 2.0 is a photo-editing tool for idiots. It's perfect for me. While nowhere near the power and flexibility of professional products such as PhotoShop, it gives casual users everything they need to turn good photographs into great ones and create amazing works of digital art.

Just digitise a photo with a scanner, or use photos taken with digital cameras, and you can be working in no time at all.

When you first run PictureIT, a helpful tutorial guides you through the basic features. The tutorial is worth the time and effort, since PictureIT has many tricks and features that you may not notice if you jump right into the application.

PictureIT's features are split into several general categories, clearly labelled on a large graphical menu. Touching up, or 'fixing', photos is one of the first capabilities that you will want to try out.

This range of features allows you to remove dreaded 'red-eye' errors from snapshots, remove dust spots from scans and old photos and even clean up cracks.
