A 12-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister were yesterday rescued by police from a Yuen Long hut, a week after they were kidnapped by their former maid and her boyfriend.
The Thai woman and the local man were last night being held at Kowloon West Regional Crime Unit Headquarters in Kowloon City.
It is understood a $700,000 ransom had been paid, but police recovered less than $100,000 when the children were rescued.
The brother and sister were abducted when they left their school in Mei Foo Sun Chuen on December 10 after their former maid met them and promised to take them to a McDonald's restaurant. They attend the same primary school.
The Thai woman worked for their family about two years ago.
Instead of dining in the fast-food shop, they were driven to the hut at Nam Hang village in Yuen Long, where they were guarded by the woman.
