Cardiff: Welsh rugby union captain Gwyn Jones was said to be improving steadily after an operation to relieve the pressure on his injured spine. The Cardiff flanker, who has been in the University Hospital of Wales since he suffered the injury against Swansea on Saturday, was described as 'stable and comfortable'.

A hospital spokesman said: 'The University Hospital of Wales can report that Gwyn Jones is today in a stable and comfortable condition on the ward.' Jones was stretchered from the field after 13 minutes of Saturday's game after being caught in a ruck and was said to have no feeling in his arms and legs.
