I am writing regarding the decision to allow 100 'elite' schools to use English as the medium of instruction.
The Education Department has used a high-handed approach to force the other schools to use Chinese as the medium of instruction. The department would have had my full support if all schools had been treated equally.
I interpret its excuse for exempting the 100 schools as a smokescreen to maintain this elite group. I understand the pressure from subvented schools, but there is absolutely no excuse to exempt government-run schools. The Director of Education should give a full explanation as to why her department chose not to take the lead by forcing all government schools to teach in Chinese.
