Those attending speech day at Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School were told of a string of achievements by students over the past year, ranging from musical prizes to sports trophies.
Principal Wong Mak Kit- ling told the speech day audience the Shau Kei Wan school's academic record had been particularly noteworthy.
There were 63 candidates who sat A-Levels in 11 subjects for the 1997-98 academic year, with 20 distinctions and 114 credits clocked up; 90 per cent gained admission to a local or overseas tertiary institution. Of 190 students sitting for the HKCEE, 94.2 per cent passed in five subjects or more, with 85 per cent going on to further their studies.
Students also performed exceptionally well in music, sport and community services, Mrs Wong said.
At the 49th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, Shau Kei Wan pupils won the prize for Secondary School Mixed Voice Intermediate Choir - Singing in English.
Form Three student Tam Mei-po took out the Vocal Solo section and was awarded the Exxon Medal. Fifth former Wong Kit-yee finished first in the San-Xian (Senior) section and received the RTHK Medal.
