I refer to the letter of P. Chan headlined, 'Exasperated by useless hotline', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on December 26, concerning the Museum of Art's inquiry telephone.
All inquiries are answered by a clerical officer at the museum's information counter.
However, on Mondays when the museum is closed, the inquiry telephone (2734 2167) is connected to a recorded message, informing the public of the museum's opening hours and the telephone number of the duty manager for further information.
It was indeed unfortunate that the system malfunctioned on December 22. The problem was subsequently rectified. In addition, the Provisional Urban Council also provides a general 24-hour hotline at 2868 0000.
I am sorry that P. Chan had such a frustrating experience, but thank her for taking an interest in the museum. I hope she was eventually able to visit the museum and enjoy the 'National Treasures' exhibition.
