Spirit Of A New Age 2 (Universal) Usually synthetic ululation and breathy whale singing do not do it for me, but I found myself enjoying this album - in a dreamy kind of way.
Where else, after all, would one hear a church-bell riff introducing a track that is mainly synthesiser? The titles of the songs on this second Spirit of a New Age CD are very much in the spirit of this current age. Celestine, Mirage, Circle of Fire and - of course - Millennium Theme : you could almost make them up without looking at the cover notes.
The tracks are all fairly similar - plenty of sigh-filled pipe music, a spot of breaking-wave or owl-call synthesiser, followed by lots of electric repetition and sometimes some words from a singer who sounds as if he or she is underwater.
It is not exactly house music - although several tracks, including Miracle Road by Les Jumeaux, The Calling by Pressure Drop and Koan's Still Dreaming, are surprisingly danceable.
But the star of this album is the I Will Find You theme from The Last of the Mohicans, sung by Clannad.
Wherever you go, it seems, New Age music will find you. So you might as well sit back and enjoy.
