Guangdong province found jobs for hundreds of thousands of unemployed workers last year, new figures have shown.

Statistics from the Guangdong Provincial Labour Department showed 310,000 laid-off workers and 130,000 who were already jobless got work between January and September.

With the back-to-work rate rising to 62 per cent, Guangdong's jobless rate was further reduced to 2.3 per cent, said an official in charge of re-employment in the province.

Other provinces, while not doing nearly as well as Guangdong, have sent party and government officials to visit the unemployed.

Xinhua said during the festive season, leaders around the country visited unemployed workers to offer support and boost morale.

Liaoning Governor Wen Shizhen and other officials in the northeast province visited financially troubled state-run factories and workers on Wednesday and Thursday, the agency said.
