I refer to the letter from Mandy Tung of the New Territories (South China Morning Post, December 24) commenting on the light rail service. The light rail was designed to deliver an efficient service for passengers in the northwestern New Territories. The scheduled journey time of light rail vehicles from Tuen Mun ferry pier to Tai Tong Street, Yuen Long, is only 36 minutes, far less than what Ms Tung mentioned in the letter. As for the air-conditioning inside light rail vehicles, we have been using filters embedded with charcoal powder which absorb unpleasant smells inside vehicles. These filters are replaced every three weeks. In addition, to ensure that passengers have a comfortable and pleasant journey we clean the inside of each train every day before it enters service. It is our mission to provide our customers with a comfortable, convenient and value-for-money transport service. I would like to thank Ms Tung for her comments. Should she require further information, she can contact us via the light rail hotline on 2468-7788. JEFF LEUNG Acting Public Affairs Manager, Light Rail Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation
