ANYONE can be successful if they try their best in whatever tasks they undertake in life, according to an academic.
Professor Charles Kao, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hongkong, gave this advice to students of St Joseph's College at the annual prize-giving day recently.
''Being a Josephian means you are already a prize-winner,'' said Professor Kao. ''I do believe that everybody can be a winner if he or she strives for it.'' He said whether a student was top of the class or at the bottom would not affect their route to success if they strived towards their goals.
The guest-of-honour, however, said: ''The pursuit of these goals requires clear thinking and an understanding of what one's abilities are.'' Professor Kao said during his days, watching the prize-winners being honoured each year was an inspiration to him to work harder.
''I do hope that all of you, the prize-winners and those applauding the winners, will be inspired by this event today as well.'' Principal Reverend Brother Thomas Favier noted that the response from parents to the red letter day was excellent.
''The fact that many of you have come this morning is a good indication of your support for your son's academic progress; such support is surely a reason why your son is receiving a certificate today,'' the principal said.
