The Democratic Party is to consult the poultry industry today on whether the final compensation package for the slaughter of chickens is acceptable.
A rally will be held outside the Central Government Offices this morning for chicken farmers, wholesalers, retailers and other people in the industry to express their views, the party said.
Party spokesman Fred Li Wah-ming said the package was 'barely acceptable'.
'At least the chicken sellers could have a little money for the Lunar New Year.
'Although chicken hawkers operating outside the Government's markets will still face quite a hard time, it is difficult to ask any more from the Government,' Mr Li said.
He said the decision to make chicken retailers eligible for low-interest loans was good news.
