Do not crow

Not all the chickens in Hong Kong have been killed. I still hear two cocks crowing every morning outside my flat on Lantau Island.

I suspect even if the health authorities were alerted to this fact, there will still be some chickens which escape death.

Killing all the chickens in Hong Kong has been something of a fool's errand. I am sure that in some remote locations, people will defy authority and protect their birds.

I cannot help but feel that this effort has been useless. If other types of birds also transmit the disease, should they be eradicated? Have the chickens been made into scapegoats? ALAN PATTERSON Lantau
