Television industry professionals across Asia who have lost their jobs because of the downswing in the regional economy are being offered the chance to use a cyber job centre through an initiative launched today.
Asian Advertising and Marketing (A&M ) magazine and the Cable and Satellite Broadcasters Association of Asia (Casbaa) are jointly promoting a new page on the A&M Job Market Web site specifically for the broadcasting industry.
The page will augment the space devoted to advertising, marketing and media positions.
Leslie Burt, the publisher of the twice-weekly publication, said about 250 jobs had been lost in Hong Kong alone through merger of the CNBC and Asia Business News television channels and the financial difficulties of China Entertainment Television.
Salaries had been slashed by up to half on many Thai publications, and there are concerns that the slump will also hit newspaper and broadcasting jobs in Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as in related fields like advertising and marketing, Ms Burt added.
