The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) says the cruise industry is poised to launch a flotilla of new ships, itineraries and port calls this year.
Association president James Godsman said seasoned and first-time cruise holidaymakers would find this year to be exceptional.
'A new cruise line sets sail, the industry's first smoke-free ship takes to the seas and CLIA-member lines continue adding itineraries that are exotic and adventuresome,' he said.
Cruise holidays provided exceptional value, with onboard activities, accommodation and meals included in the cost of a cruise, he said.
CLIA-member lines plan to add seven new ships to the fleet this year.
Two cruise lines will begin sailing refurbished vessels and a third will lengthen two of its ships.
The new vessels will accommodate from 312 to more than 2,600 passengers and feature amenities such as virtual-reality centres, conference facilities and entire decks dedicated to children's programmes.
