ENHANCED crowd control will be in force when the Hongkong Flower Show, expected to attract between 350,000 and 400,000 visitors, opens today.

Organising committee chairman, Mr Farley Ma Man-chiu, said the show would follow government crowd control guidelines issued after the Lan Kwai Fong tragedy killed 21 people during New Year celebrations.

He said the measures were needed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the visitors to enjoy the exhibitions at the Sha Tin Town Hall and Sha Tin Central Park.

''A maximum of 3,000 people are allowed to enter the Sha Tin Town Hall at any one time and one-way traffic flow will be adopted,'' Mr Ma said.

He said there would not be any directional control at Sha Tin Central Park which was an open area, but he added visitors number would be limited to about 15,000 at this venue at any one time.

Additional security guards would also be deployed at the showground to maintain order while patrolling would be stepped up to guard against vandalism which, however, had not been a problem in the past, Mr Ma said.
