Rodrigo Cuello has been voted Johnnie Walker Asian Golfer of the month for December following his outstanding victory at the US$500,000 Omega PGA Championship. The 37-year-old clinched the US$80,750 prize by one shot over Taiwan's Lu Wen-teh at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club and, in doing so, became the first Filipino to win a tournament on the Omega Asian PGA Tour. He finished 11th on the Tour's Order of Merit. Having started the final day four shots behind overnight leader Kenny Walker of Scotland, Cuello fired six birdies and two bogies to finish four-under-par 66, with a four-round aggregate of 10-under-par 270. A week earlier, Cuello had made a staunch defence of his Hong Kong Open title by shooting three-under-par 68s in the first two rounds. He finished joint 17th, 14 shots behind winner Frank Nobilo.
